F-F-Friday (47)

One of my friends got married on Saturday in our hometown.  The ceremony was in her parents’ backyard, and the reception was on a farm close to where my parents live.  This floral photo is from the reception.

While I was teaching in Japan, she was a Peace Corps Volunteer in the Kingdom of Tonga. We wrote each other dozens of letters over those two years that our adventures on that side of the world coincided.  I have saved all the letters I received from friends and family while I was in Japan.  They were so precious to me.  She told me about another PCV she met in Tonga in one of her letters:

So this sexy man that I’m in love with . . . yeah, he’s pretty amazing.  Sometimes I don’t believe that I’ve found this.  Well— his name is A.B. and he’s from a town called Ipswich, Mass (right on the coast outside of Boston)— he’s 24, has a great sense of humor, makes me smile, loves to ski, speaks Spanish (he’s lived in Spain, Costa Rica and did World Teach in the Galapagos Islands).  And of course not to forget that he is extremely handsome.  We actually just had the “love” talk when he was down the other weekend— this all started 7 months ago at New Years, but has progressed and developed into a really amazing relationship.  We’re both crazy about one another and wish that we could be together all the time.  Sadly he lives in Vava’u on an outer island (no running water, etc.) but we’ve seen each other at least every 4 weeks— sometimes 2 or 3, so it works out.  When I get some more pictures developed, I’ll send you one!  I can’t wait for you and everyone to meet him.  My parents are coming out in October and the 4 of us are spending a weekend at a resort— can’t wait . . .

Wouldn’t that have been nice to read aloud as a toast at the reception?  But I didn’t think of my stash of letters until we were already there, listening to other people’s toasts.  Ah well, they can read it here when they get back from their honeymoon in Tonga!

Hooray for love. I hope they have a pleasant life together. This is certainly a topic on my mind, since I am moving to Ise tomorrow to be near my sweetie.
