You Can Lead a Cow to Water

April 30, 2009

Last Sunday we got the chance to meet the eight young cows that my dad is raising on his pasture.  He explained that they are really missing their mothers.  They weren’t quite weaned when he bought them.

We filled their water troughs and then went into the field to call them down for a drink.  Six of them came quickly and the other two soon joined them.  We tried to let them know that we wanted to be friends.  They were drinking out of the water troughs and stretched their necks out to sniff the clover that we were holding out to them.  But then they decided they’d better not get too close.  It was exciting to watch them, though.

My son loves the responsibility of holding the hose while the water is running.  He seems to remember having done that last year.  Now that the grass is green enough to sustain this little herd, tending to Granddad’s cows is once again a part of what makes our Sunday visits special.

It was fun to hear your voice!
It makes me a little sad that they’re missing their mother.
Your son is such a cutie.

It looks so beautiful there! And the grass is so green!

I’ll ask Daniel if he will say a word or two about dinner 😉
