El Día de la Canción Criolla

October 31, 2007

This beautiful video shows the lyrics, like a karaoke version, to the song “Y se llama Peru” layered over images from Peru.  It is great practice to listen and read at the same time, if you are currently studying Spanish.  October 31st is the holiday el Día de la Canción Criolla which honors Peruvian music.  Peruvian música criolla is a combination of African, Spanish, and Andean influences.  It has a waltz rhythm and includes Spanish-style guitars and Afro-Peruvian box drums.
